How Exotic Car Rental Works: A Complete Guide (2026)

Exotic car delivery and rental process at Monarc VIP in Miami

The short version: You pick a car, we verify your ID and license, place a refundable security deposit hold on your credit card ($500-$2,000 depending on the vehicle), and deliver the car to your location in Miami. Minimum age is 21. A rental day is 24 hours. Every rental includes 100 miles per day. Insurance add-ons are available but optional. The car comes with a full tank -- you return it with a full tank. That is the entire process. This guide covers every detail, question, and scenario you might encounter.

The Rental Process: Step by Step

Renting an exotic car is not as complicated as most people expect. It is more involved than renting a Camry from Hertz, but the process is straightforward once you understand the steps.

Step 1: Choose Your Car

Browse our full fleet or use the rental calculator to see pricing for your specific dates. Not sure which car fits your trip? Read our guide to the best cars for first-time renters. If you want help narrowing it down, call us at (786) 949-7058 -- we will ask about your group size, occasion, and driving plans and give you an honest recommendation.

Step 2: Reserve

Contact us by phone, email (MonarcMIA@gmail.com), or through the booking buttons on any car page. We will confirm availability, discuss dates, and collect a $500 booking deposit to hold the vehicle. This deposit is applied toward your total rental cost -- it is not an extra fee.

Step 3: Submit Documents

Before delivery, we need:

Step 4: Pre-Rental Inspection

When we deliver the car, we do a thorough walkthrough together. We photograph every panel, note any existing wear, and record the mileage and fuel level. This protects both you and us -- there are no surprise damage claims at return because everything is documented upfront. We will also walk you through the car's controls, drive modes, and anything specific to the vehicle.

Step 5: Drive

The car is yours for 24 hours per rental day. Drive it wherever you want within Florida. Take it to South Beach, Wynwood, Key Biscayne, or up to Fort Lauderdale. There are no GPS trackers monitoring your driving style -- we trust our clients.

Step 6: Return

Return the car at the agreed time with a full tank of premium fuel. We do a post-rental inspection together, and assuming no damage beyond normal use, the security deposit hold is released from your card within 3-5 business days.

Fleet Manager's Tip

The most common first-timer mistake is underestimating how much attention the car will attract. Budget an extra 15-20 minutes everywhere you go because people will approach you for photos, ask about the car, and record you pulling up. This is part of the experience -- embrace it. But plan your timing accordingly, especially for events with firm start times.

How Old Do You Have to Be to Rent an Exotic Car?

At Monarc VIP, the minimum age is 21 years old for every vehicle in our fleet. There is no maximum age.

This applies across the board -- whether you are renting a $395/day Corvette C8 or a $1,795/day Lamborghini Aventador, the age requirement is the same. Some competitors require 25+ for their highest-tier vehicles, but we keep it consistent at 21.

You will need a valid driver's license. We accept U.S. licenses from any state and international licenses with an English translation. If your license is in a non-Latin script (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, etc.), bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your original license.

For a deeper look at age policies across the industry, see our exotic car rental age requirements guide.

Do You Need Special Insurance?

No, you do not need to bring your own insurance. But you should understand your options before you pick up the car.

Here is how insurance works for exotic car rentals:

Option 1: Our Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

We offer optional CDW that you can add to your rental for $150-$250/day depending on the vehicle. CDW is not traditional insurance -- it is a waiver that caps your financial liability if the car is damaged during your rental. If you purchase CDW and the car gets scratched, dented, or involved in an accident, your out-of-pocket cost is limited to a predetermined deductible rather than the full repair cost.

Option 2: Your Personal Auto Insurance

Some personal auto insurance policies extend coverage to rental cars, including exotic vehicles. However, many policies exclude vehicles above a certain value (often $50,000 or $75,000), and exotic cars blow past that threshold. Call your insurance company before your rental and specifically ask: "Does my policy cover rental vehicles valued at $200,000 or more?" Get the answer in writing.

Option 3: Credit Card Coverage

Many premium credit cards (Amex Platinum, Chase Sapphire Reserve, etc.) offer rental car coverage. However, exotic cars are frequently excluded from these programs. American Express Platinum, for example, excludes "exotic or antique vehicles" from its rental coverage. Check your card's specific terms.

Our recommendation: if you are not 100% certain that your personal insurance or credit card covers a $200,000+ vehicle, add CDW. The $150-$250/day is a small price for peace of mind when you are driving a car that costs more than most houses.

How Much Is the Deposit?

Security deposits at Monarc VIP are refundable holds on your credit card -- not charges. The amount varies by vehicle tier.

Vehicle TierSecurity DepositExample CarsDaily Rate Range
Entry-Level$500Corvette C8, Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes-AMG C43$395 - $495/day
Mid-Range$1,000Mercedes G63, Bentley Continental GT, Mercedes S580, BMW XM$495 - $895/day
Premium$1,500Lamborghini Urus, Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Rolls-Royce Ghost, McLaren GT, Porsche 911 GT3$1,095 - $1,395/day
Flagship Supercar$2,000Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari F8 Spyder, McLaren 720S, Ferrari 488$1,295 - $1,795/day

The deposit is placed as a hold (authorization) on your credit card at the time of pickup. It is not a charge -- it does not appear on your statement as a transaction. When the car is returned in good condition, the hold is released and disappears within 3-5 business days depending on your bank.

Separate from the security deposit, there is a $500 booking deposit to reserve the car. This is applied directly to your rental total -- it is a payment toward the rental, not an additional fee.

Can They Deliver the Car to My Hotel?

Yes. In fact, delivery is the most common way our clients receive their cars. We deliver to hotels, vacation rentals, private residences, offices, and airports throughout Miami-Dade County.

Here is the delivery pricing:

Rental LengthDelivery FeeNotes
1-2 day rental$100 each way ($200 round trip)Within Miami-Dade County
3+ day rentalFree both waysWithin Miami-Dade County
Fort Lauderdale / BrowardAdditional fee (contact us)Available for any rental length
Palm Beach / KeysAdditional fee (contact us)Available for any rental length

The free delivery on 3+ day rentals is a $200 value and one of the biggest reasons to book a multi-day rental rather than single days. If you are visiting Miami for a weekend, a 3-day rental with free delivery is almost always a better deal than two separate 1-day rentals.

We also offer pickup from our location in Brickell (901 S Miami Ave, Suite 214) if you prefer to come to us.

Fleet Manager's Tip

If you are staying at a hotel, let the valet or front desk know in advance that a vehicle is being delivered. Some hotels have policies about exotic car deliveries, and a heads-up ensures smooth handoff. If you are at a vacation rental, make sure there is adequate parking -- these cars are wider and lower than typical vehicles, and tight garage clearances can be a problem. When in doubt, we are happy to coordinate.

How Many Miles Are Included?

Every rental at Monarc VIP includes 100 miles per day. Extra miles are charged at a per-mile rate that varies by vehicle.

Rate TierExtra Mile CostCars
$5/mileEntry-levelCorvette C8, BMW i8, Mercedes S580, Tesla Cybertruck, Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes-AMG C43
$7/mileMid to premiumLamborghini Huracan, Lamborghini Urus, Porsche 911 GT3, Porsche 911 Carrera S, Bentley Continental GT, McLaren GT, McLaren 570S, Mercedes G63, Mercedes G550, Rolls-Royce Ghost, Rolls-Royce Dawn, Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Maybach S580, Maybach GLS 600, BMW XM
$10/mileFlagship supercarsLamborghini Aventador, Ferrari F8 Spyder, Ferrari 488, McLaren 720S

Most clients in Miami use between 40 and 60 miles in a day. A typical day might include: hotel to South Beach (5 miles), South Beach to Wynwood (6 miles), Wynwood to Brickell dinner (3 miles), evening cruising (20 miles), back to hotel (5 miles). That is about 39 miles -- well under the 100-mile daily allowance.

If you are planning a longer trip -- say, Miami to Fort Lauderdale and back (60 miles round trip) or Miami to Key West (330 miles round trip) -- factor in the extra mileage cost. A Key West trip in a Lamborghini Huracan would add roughly $1,610 in extra miles on top of the daily rate. For long-distance trips, we can sometimes negotiate custom mileage packages -- call us to discuss.

For a deep dive on mileage costs, see our mileage limits explained guide.

What Is the Fuel Policy?

Full-to-full. The car is delivered with a full tank of premium fuel (91+ octane), and you return it with a full tank. If the car comes back with less fuel, a refueling charge applies.

Fuel costs are modest relative to the rental price. Here is what a full day of driving typically costs in fuel for different vehicles:

Premium fuel in Miami currently runs $4.30-$4.70/gallon. For a 1-day rental, you are looking at $15-$20 in fuel for normal driving. It is one of the smallest costs of the entire rental.

What Happens If You Damage the Car?

Nobody wants to think about this, but it is the question every first-time renter has. Here is exactly how the process works.

Pre-Rental Documentation

Before you drive, we photograph every panel of the car and note any pre-existing wear. You review and sign off on the condition report. This means you cannot be held responsible for a scratch that was already there.

Minor Damage (Scratches, Scuffs, Curb Rash)

Small cosmetic issues are evaluated individually. A tiny scratch on a wheel from parallel parking is different from a deep gouge across a body panel. Your security deposit covers minor repairs. We assess the actual repair cost, deduct it from the deposit, and release the remainder.

Major Damage (Collision, Body Damage)

If the car is in an accident, the process depends on your coverage:

Theft

If the car is stolen during your rental period, you are responsible unless CDW or your personal insurance covers theft. We take theft prevention seriously -- these cars have GPS tracking and ignition lockout systems -- but it is an additional reason to carry proper coverage.

Fleet Manager's Tip

The single most common damage we see is curb rash on wheels from tight parking. Exotic car wheels often extend to the very edge of the tire sidewall, which means there is almost no rubber buffer between the wheel and a curb. When parking, leave extra room. When in doubt, pull away from the curb rather than closer. A $2,000 wheel replacement is not how you want to end a rental. Also: avoid drive-throughs. Low-clearance speed bumps, tight turns, and narrow lanes are the natural enemy of a car that sits 4 inches off the ground.

Tips for First-Time Exotic Car Renters

Based on thousands of rentals, here is what separates a great rental experience from a stressful one:

  1. Book at least 3-5 days in advance. Our most popular cars (Huracan, Urus, Ferrari F8) book out on weekends. Last-minute availability is not guaranteed, especially during events like Art Basel, Miami Swim Week, and the Grand Prix.
  2. Take the car walkthrough seriously. Spend the full 10-15 minutes with our team at delivery. Learn where every button is, how the drive modes work, and how to open the doors (Lamborghini scissor doors and McLaren dihedral doors are not intuitive). This is not a rental car counter handoff -- it is a personal orientation.
  3. Fill up before you return. Premium fuel only (91+ octane). Find a gas station with wide lanes and pull-through pumps -- not a cramped station where you might scrape a post.
  4. Plan your parking in advance. Valet is your best friend. Most high-end Miami restaurants and hotels offer valet for $20-$40, and it eliminates the risk of tight lot parking. Avoid street parking if possible.
  5. Drive the car. This sounds obvious, but some first-time renters are so nervous about the car's value that they barely drive it. These cars are built to be driven. Take it across the Rickenbacker Causeway. Drop the top. Use the throttle. That is the entire point.
